Small panels need every useful hour
Caravan solar systems have limited roof space, so keeping the exposed panel surface clear helps the system make the most of available daylight. How much difference cleaning makes depends on the panel, weather and level of contamination.
Road grime is different from household dust
Coastal salt, pollen, insects, soot and bird droppings can cling to a panel. Heavy or uneven soiling can also create shaded areas. A visual check is sensible after long storage, dusty roads or time near the coast.
Gentle methods matter
Use cool water, soft non-abrasive tools and products suitable for the panel manufacturer’s guidance. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, pressure washing and walking on a caravan roof. If safe access is not possible from the ground, use a suitable professional.
Make it part of a simple road routine
Inspect before a trip, after extended storage and when energy performance changes unexpectedly. Cleaning cannot fix electrical faults, damaged wiring or failed components, so unusual performance should be assessed by a qualified person.
